GREAT RACING ACTION AT SEASON OPENER OF
JRP SPEEDWAY SATURDAY NIGHT!
Although most of the MMRA group ran at Texas over the
weekend, we still had a few new ones start their season here
at JRP. This
group of Mini
Cup Future Stars all graduated from JRP's Can -Am school and
series. The #2 car of Austin Fullerton, led the field of
youngsters from start to finish, even after having to
restart at the rear of the field with only 3 laps to go. The
number 18 of Tyler Herdman, left the track on the first lap.
#77 Braden Huff
took over 2nd place on lap 7 and held that
position. Tanner Phillips in the sleek #98 finished in 3rd.
Bradens brother Caleb had to leave the track on lap on lap
17 due to the 3 spin rule leaving him to finish fourth.
Hot Rod Brady Demeree dominated in the Mini Stock
division taking the lead from #98 Brett Fuller on lap 3 and
never looking back.
Last seasons champion James Savage took over the
second spot on lap 7 leaving Fuller to take the 3rd
position. The great looking #48 of Grumpy took the 4th
spot and also the top spot for the Pro division.
The #00 of the
returning Herb Adkins rounded out the top five. New comer
Billy Cook took 6th and 2nd in Pro.
They were followed by Phillip Cook, Matt Hopkins, and
Lee Passmore.
In the Dwarf Division, Kevin Brewer drove his #10
machine straight from the pole to the checkered flag to
capture his first win of the season. Followed closely by the
#01 of Rick Quinn. The #5 of Shane Crews, starting from the
rear of the field came up through the field of 8 cars to
take the 3rd spot. #25 Alex Bachtell followed in
the fourth position, being followed by rookie Tyler Bachtell,
David Cummins, Kelly Brewer, and last years champion Kent
Kantor blew his motor on lap 16 and retired to the pits.
The FWD division got off to a bang up start with a
crash on the first lap, the #3 car clipped the #25 car of
Brittany Vierheller, (with substitute driver Jim Estes
filling in) and sent him towards the wall in turn 1,
retiring him for the night.
#14 Eric Frakes, took over the lead from pole sitter
Tony Vierheller, to go on and capture the first win of the
season.
Following very
close in second was Lea Welch in her very sharp looking #13
car. Slim Burklin took the 3rd spot, #3 Gary
Highnite was fourth, Alex Keddrell fifth, Tony fell to the
sixth position, followed by David Loub, Brandon Overton and
Jim Estes.
Last feature of the evening was the Mighty Factory
Stocks. We opened the season just like the end of last
season with Champion Chris Ford taking the win. Chris took
over the lead from Gregg Overstreet on lap 3, to take the
first win of the season, Overstreet held on to the second
spot, followed closely by the #06 of Dann Gray. Jimmy Kirby
of Wagoner took the fourth position, followed by Muskogee
driver Tyler Lane and the Wellston driver, Jeremy Allen in
sixth.
Well folks, the season opener went really well, we
look to have a great season of racing this year, with more
cars to come. Most of the drivers I spoke with still were
just not finished getting their cars ready.
Our next race will be on the 19th of
April, and I expect a full night of great racing action. In
the mean time be sure to come enjoy our go-kart track, we
are open 7 days a week.
See you at the
races
